The Do The Right Thing Program of Greater St. Louis Inc. held a "School of the Month" awards ceremony at Centralia High School, Centralia, Illinois on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 12:45 p.m. in the school gymnasium.

Christy Campbell is a new teacher who was diagnosed with a serious illness in the fall of 2007 which requires her to be on sick leave. Unfortunately, her leave is without pay and she has five children ranging in age from 21 months to 17 years old. Also, two of Christy's children are disabled--one with Down Syndrome and the other with Cerebral Palsy. Needless to say, the family was in great need of help.

The entire student body and staff of Centralia High School held several fundraisers for the family to lesson their burden. More than $5,000 has been raised. Also, the school provided the family with presents at Christmas time so they would have a better holiday season.

Some of the more than 1000 students of Centralia High School honored at the special ceremony.

Over 1,000 students were recognized in an assembly. McDonald's owners Tom and Cheryl McCarthy were present and provided a sandwich coupon for each student. DTRT also provided gift packages for the Campbell children: Marissa, Mariah, Mia, Maddie and Mylz.
